Creating A Functional Home

Do you love being in your home? A few years ago, I realized that my home was a little lackluster, which is why I started focusing on making things right by working with a team of construction contractors. I wanted to create an absolutely beautiful home interior, so I met with a team of professionals to talk about my construction options. They were really incredible to work with, and within a few short months, my home looked brand new. I wanted to create a blog all about creating a functional, gorgeous home so that you can adore your indoors space.

3 Problem Areas With Gutters That Can Cause Leaks, Structural Damage And Costly Roof Repairs

Gutters can be a great improvement to your home to protect against problems with your foundation and other issues you may have with your home.  They can also be the source of problems with your roof and structure if not properly maintained. This is usually due to issues with leaks around seams and debris or ice dams that cause wear of shingles at eaves:

1. Sealing Any Seams And Updating Gutters With A Seamless System

The areas around the seams of gutters are one of the most likely places that you will start having leaks. To prevent these problems, you will want to occasionally have the corners sealed, or if you do not have seamless gutters, you may want to have them installed. A roofing contractor can help you with sealing the seams when they do some of the other roof repairs that you may need, such as hail damage repair. Some roofing contractors also install gutters, so you may want to ask them about installing seamless gutters on your home.

2. Adding Guards To Help Protect Your Roof from Potential Roof Damage

Guards are another feature that you may want to consider for protecting your home. These can be a great solution to prevent debris from getting in the gutters from trees around your home. In northern climates, you may want to consider a type of gutter that helps to protect your home from ice dams because the gutter is solid and it permits snow to flow over it.

3. Adding Drainage System To Keep Water Away From The Foundation

Drainage is another important feature that you will want to have for the gutters in your home. Often, downspouts just spill out somewhere near the foundation. This can lead to static water pressure and damage to your home's foundation. With homes on basements and crawl spaces, this can lead to leaks and water problems. A simple improvement to avoid these problems can be done by adding a drainage pipe to downspouts. This will allow rain water to drain away from your home and prevent damage. You may even want to consider having rain barrels added to your gutters to use this water.

These are some tips to help you with preventing damage to your home from poor gutter maintenance. If you need help with improvements or repairs to your gutters, contact a roofing repair contractor, such as Peacock Roofing, to help you with some of these improvements.
