Creating A Functional Home

Do you love being in your home? A few years ago, I realized that my home was a little lackluster, which is why I started focusing on making things right by working with a team of construction contractors. I wanted to create an absolutely beautiful home interior, so I met with a team of professionals to talk about my construction options. They were really incredible to work with, and within a few short months, my home looked brand new. I wanted to create a blog all about creating a functional, gorgeous home so that you can adore your indoors space.

Installing New Laminate Flooring? Here's How To Keep It Clean

Laminate flooring is an excellent choice for your home if you have a growing family. It is very durable and easy to clean. Plus, it gives you the beauty of hardwood floors at a more affordable price. Your laminate floor will look great for years to come if you care for it properly. Here are some maintenance tips to keep in mind.

Dust Or Sweep Regularly

Buy a dust mop or a broom with soft bristles, and clean your floors often. You may need to sweep high traffic areas on a daily basis. Sweeping gets rid of grit that would otherwise grind into the floor when your family walks on it. This could create tiny scratches that cause your floor to lose its shine over time. You can even use a vacuum cleaner, just make sure it has a setting for wood floors. Don't use the setting for carpet, or the beater bars may scratch the floor.

Use Only Laminate Floor Cleaner

If your kids or pets track in mud or if something spills on the floor, you should clean it with a dry cloth first. You can also use a damp mop as long as you wring it out well. You shouldn't mop a laminate floor with water, because the flooring doesn't tolerate being wet. If you need to wet the floor to get up dirt and stains, use a cleaning product made for use on laminate floors. When the stain is clean, dry the area thoroughly. Avoid using soapy cleaners or products intended to make vinyl floors shiny. These can leave a film behind that makes your laminate floor look old and dull.

Protect Your Floor

It's a good idea to use floor mats or area rugs near the door. That way the rug will catch a lot of the dirt and mud that would get tracked inside. The rug also soaks up rain from wet shoes, so the floor stays dry on rainy days. You may want to place rugs under your furniture, or use felt pads under the legs, so the flooring isn't dented or scratched by heavy couch or table legs. It's also a good idea to change the layout of your room periodically if you want your flooring to wear evenly.

Keeping your laminate flooring looking good is easy. It's more about what not to do, because you can damage your floor if you get it wet or scratch it with abrasive cleaners and equipment. Remember to follow the cleaning instructions provided by the manufacturer so you don't void your warranty.
